MENTORSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS

About the NANS RFS Mentorship Program:

Purpose: The purpose of the Mentorship Program is to cultivate professional relationships between North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) physicians within the field of Neuromodulation, to foster career development, and to enhance overall patient care and safety.

Objectives:

  • Improve Neuromodulation education and training to residents and fellows.
  • Cultivate research collaborations in the field of Neuromodulation.
  • Provide a resource for building a successful practice.
  • Provide a network for career opportunities.
  • Foster the development of mentees that will become future mentors in NANS.

Core Entrance Requirements:

  • For non-neurosurgeon trained physicians, one must be a current or recently graduated fellow in an ACGME accredited program in pain medicine.
  • For neurosurgeons, one must be a current resident or fellow in an ACGME accredited program.
  • Physicians must be current NANS members.

Overview: 

  • Year-long 1:1 Mentor and Mentee pairings
  • 6 mentorship sessions held via phone or video
  • Curated Discussion Topics and Resources available 
  • Optional site visit to mentor
  • and more. 

Program Details for Mentees:
​There will be an introduction virtual call with Resident, Fellow, Student (RFS) Commitee and Young Neuromodulators (YN) Committee to outline mentee expectations. Mentees will be encouraged to make one site visit during the year and meet to discuss pre-defined topics through a minimum of 6 virtual calls. Periodic surveys will also be sent to mentors and mentees regarding their experiences to optimize the mentor-mentee relationship. The 2026 Cohort will be announced Fall 2025.

Although there may be some case by case variation by topic, each case follows a standardized format that is meant to highlight core educational concepts within neuromodulation that are relevant to Fellows and Residents in training.
